Passive Solar Design
Ever notice that some houses welcome in the light to naturally feel warm in winter and cool in summer, even without the hum of air conditioning? By making the best use of the sun’s position according to your block and to the seasons, your house can also be altered so that you don’t need to head down to the backyard to enjoy your morning coffee in the sunshine.
It’s an art and a technique often overlooked by construction companies but for the Linkpin Constructions team, it’s of special interest. In order to fully utilise a passive solar design, more than eaves and windows are taken into consideration. The use of materials also plays a vital role.
Linkpin uses greenhouse principles in order to harness solar radiation. The aim of the design is to use heat from the sun in winter to stream in through the glass windows, using surrounding materials to absorb this naturally collected warmth.
Similarly, in summer, fixed horizontal shading elements such as eaves, protect the glass from the higher position of the sun to minimise the effect of the sun’s rays.
